Is Jesus the ONLY way?

Jesus told us "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." That seems pretty clear. But why did He say that?

For one thing Jesus also said that only He has seen God the Father, and thus only He can show Him to everyone else. For another (and this is in my layperson opinion) no other religion in my knowledge portrays God as Jesus portrays Him. Many religions show God as either all-too-human, detached from human existence, more of a concept than a real person, etc. In other words, no other religion has a God that is transcendent (someone we cannot even begin to comprehend) yet immanent (someone we can get to know like a close friend). Sounds paradoxical, right? But He is so. What other God is portrayed as stictly just yet extremely merciful, all-powerful yet humble enough to bow to death for us? Most religions portray God as one or the other, while ours portray God as BOTH. Wow. An omniscient, omnipotent being who cares for us like a father, never forcing anything on us, always patient, always loving. And we know this because Jesus tells us so. So if we want to know, love and serve this God, then Jesus is indeed the one and only way (and truth and life).

Legion Assignment (Fri evening Malaysia time)

Did my Legion of Mary assignment which was to visit Cheshire Home (which provides infirmary care for severely disabled patients needing long-term treatment or care) of Kuching. I didn't get to talk to most of the Home's residents (who were to shy to do more than look at me with puppy-dog eyes). I managed to make at least one resident happy: Monica. Uproariusly, lol happy. Hopefully that's substantial enough to fulfill my assignment requirements.

Today's Reading

Here's some more readings for Fri 26 Oct, this time taken from Luke 12: 54-59.

Jesus also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A rainstorm is coming,’ and it does. And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat,’ and there is. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how can you not know how to interpret the present time?
“And why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right? As you are going with your accuser before the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, so that he will not drag you before the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison. I tell you, you will never get out of there until you have paid the very last cent!”

*A side note- do you know why 'cloud rising in the west' means rain and 'south wind blowing' means scorching heat? The answer lies in the geography of the Palestinian lands. To the west is the sea, while to the south is more desert. So any cloud coming from the west will be full of moisture, while wind from the south will have absolutely none.
